So, now we're being told to get rid of the water bottles we all use every day. It seems just when you think you're doing something healthy for your body, you find out that that is unhealthy too. It gets frustrating. But the truth of the matter is that those water bottles are not only bad for the earth, they can be bad for you physically and financially as well.
Recently, reports have been all over the news about San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom's ban on bottled water in all city departments. Opinions on the subject are mixed because although the ban will help to curb global warming by diminishing our reliance on the oil needed to make the bottles, but it is forcing people to drink city tap water, which itself has been under fire for several years. Although municipalities have been assuring us for years that tap water is safe, how can we be sure? The chemicals used to treat the water are being consumed into our systems. Is that safe?
So, what is the answer? Do we ditch the bottles to save the planet? Or do we ditch city tap water to save our health? What if you could do both? No, I'm not suggesting we stop drinking water. But there are options. There are many water filtration devices on the market that can be used in conjunction with tap water and well water. Go ahead...step away the bottle and drink your water.... just make sure you filter it first.
It's important in this day in age to do the responsible thing and do what you can to protect your family and our planet. We all can make a difference. Take one step at a time. If the the first step you take is to follow in the example of Mayor Gavin Newsom and the City of San Francisco, then stop buying the bottled water and filter your water! You have options!
For those of us on the move, which most of us are, it's important to find a good refillable bottle. Just make sure that you wash and sterilize the bottle after each use. Yes, it's extra work but in the long run it's worth it for you and the planet! Less oil consumption, emptier landfills and fuller wallets. It's true. Even though you have to spend more money up front for the water filtration devices, you will save money in the long run because you won't have to buy water every time you go to the grocery store. Think about it. What could you do with the money you save every year by changing your water supply?
A lot to think about. At some point we all need to make a decisive decision about what we're going to do to do our part in preserving the world we live in! Here's to your health!
